Manpower Ministry Urged to Prep Rules on Eid Allowance for Online Ojek Drivers

27 March 2024 11:30 WIB

TEMPO.CO, JakartaCommission IX of the House of Representatives (DPR) urged Manpower Minister Ida Fauziyah to draft regulations on social protection and security for partnership-based workers, including the provision of Eid allowance for online motorcycle taxis or online ojek drivers.

“Commission IX is pressing the Manpower Ministry to ensure that all workers or laborers receive Eid allowance in 2024,” chairman of Commission IX Felly Estelita Runtuwene said during a working meeting at the Parliament complex, Senayan, Jakarta, on Tuesday, March 26.

Commission IX convened a working meeting with the Manpower Ministry to deliberate on the implementation of Eid allowance for workers, evaluation of social security protection for workers, particularly non-wage workers or informal workers (PBPU) in 2023, as well as strategies and synergy with the workers’ social security agency BPJS Ketenagakerjaan and other stakeholders in 2024.

Additionally, Commission IX encouraged the Manpower Ministry to conduct studies and foster collaboration on the implementation of Presidential Instruction No. 2 of 2021 on the employment social security program, especially for vulnerable workers.

Furthermore, Commission IX requested the Manpower Ministry to conduct a study on the amendments to Government Regulation (PP) No. 44 of 2015 concerning the implementation of the occupational accident and death insurance program.

Previously, Manpower Minister Ida Fauziyah remarked that the appeal to provide Eid allowances to online ojek driver partners is not obligatory, but rather an act of goodwill.

“Let's perceive this as a gesture of goodwill; it is not stipulated [in the regulation] and not obligatory as per the Government Regulation and Manpower Minister’s Regulation No. 6 of 2016,” she explained.
