TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Indonesian Minister of Youth and Sports Dito Ariotedjo expressed optimism regarding Indonesia's potential to spring surprises at the Paris 2024 Olympics.
“This year's Olympics coincide with the final year of President Jokowi's administration. Our primary goal is to excel and hopefully, there will be surprises. We aspire for our performance to be a delightful gift for the nation and President Jokowi,” said Minister Dito at a forum titled "Menjaga Semangat Kolektif Menuju Merah Putih Berkibar" in Jakarta on Monday, March 25.
During the Tokyo 2020 Olympics, the Indonesian contingent clinched five medals; comprising one gold, one silver, and three bronze.
This year, the possibilities are wide open for Indonesia. In addition to badminton, where Indonesia has a strong track record, the country will also be represented in rock climbing and weightlifting, where Indonesian athletes currently hold world records.
Minister Dito has devised a comprehensive program to prepare the athletes, emphasizing the importance of a synergistic approach involving the government, private sector, and society.
“Collaboration between the government, private sector, and society is pivotal to our triumph in facing the world's biggest sporting event,” Dito remarked.
Indonesian Chef de Mission (CdM) Anindya Novyan Bakrie emphasized that harmonious collaboration and synergy are imperative to proudly present Indonesia on the global stage through the singing of the national anthem, Indonesia Raya.
