TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - State Logistics Agency Perum Bulog guaranteed that there will be enough rice for Ramadan and Eid 2024. The agency will import 450,000 tons of rice from a number of Southeast Asian neighbors this month.
Mokhamad Suyamto, director of supply chain and public services at Bulog, said the 450,000 tons of rice would be imported from Thailand, Cambodia, Vietnam and Myanmar. Bulog is also planning to import rice from Pakistan.
"In March, we will receive 450,000 tons," he said during a press conference at the SOE Ministry building on Wednesday, March 20.
Suyamto said Bulog has a contract to import 800,000 tons of rice since the beginning of the year. An additional 100,000 tons will be imported from Thailand and Cambodia, bringing the total volume of contracts to 900,000 tons. Indonesia's total rice import quota this year is 3.6 million tons.
"The contract for the 800,000 tons or rice import is using a business-to-business scheme, while 80,000 to 100,000 use a government-to-government scheme, bringing the total to 900,000 tons. So far, 970,000 tons have come in," he said.
To ensure that the main harvest season in the country is not negatively impacted, Suyamto assured that Bulog will carefully consider the schedule for the entry of the remaining imported rice. He stated that rice imports will be based on the stocks available for the main harvest.
" In case of insufficient stocks, we will import. The imports will be adjusted to meet the required needs," he said.
