TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - During the Golkar Party's thanksgiving event in Badung Regency, Bali, on Friday, March 15, Golkar Party Chairman Airlangga Hartarto stated that his party played a significant role in helping Prabowo Subianto and Gibran Rakabuming Raka win the 2024 presidential election.
Citing data from the Golkar Party's Elections Division (Bappilu), Airlangga said some 75 to 80 percent of party cadres and sympathizers voted for Prabowo-Gibran. This, he said, helped the pair garner 58 percent of the vote and win the election in a single round.
For this role, Airlangga said that during Prabowo-Gibran's upcoming term, the Golkar Party should get a bigger share in the cabinet. After all, he said, Golkar won in 15 provinces and contributed 25 percent to Prabowo's victory.
"We can say at least five (ministerial positions). But if you calculate it proportionately as a 25-percent share, there is still a lot of room," Airlangga said in Bali.
Airlangga said the party had not discussed the allocation of five ministers with Prabowo. The Coordinating Minister for Economic Affairs said they were still waiting for the official announcement of the vote tallies from the General Elections Commission (KPU).
Airlangga said Golkar had not yet asked which positions would be filled in Prabowo's cabinet. "That is still under discussion," he said when met after a cabinet meeting at the Presidential Palace Complex in Jakarta on Monday, March 18.
