Police to Enforce Odd-Even Traffic Policy during Eid Homecoming Period

TEMPO.CO, JakartaThe National Police Traffic Corps Chief Inspector General Aan Suhanan confirmed that during this year's Eid homecoming period, the government is mulling over the enforcement of several traffic policies, including the odd-even traffic policy.

“Considering the quite high public interest [in the mass exodus], we will also impose restrictions on vehicle mobility by implementing an odd-even policy,” Aan said in a virtual press conference in Jakarta on Sunday, March 17, 2024.

During the implementation, officers will not stop or divert vehicles violating the policy but will rely on active e-ticketing cameras (ETLE). The police will also implement traffic diversion in the form of one-way and contra-flow lanes to ease congestion during the annual exodus.

Director General of Land Transportation Hendro Sugiatno shared a similar statement. According to him, the government predicted that about 71 percent of Indonesia's population, or around 193 million people, will return to their hometowns during this year’s Eid homecoming.

Based on the Joint Decree (SKB) of the Land Transportation Director General, the Head of the National Police Traffic Corps, and the Director General of Highways dated March 5, 2024, the odd-even policy will start from 2 p.m. to 12 a.m. from April 5 to 7 and from 8 a.m. to 12 a.m. from April 8 to 9 from KM 0 of the Jakarta Inner City Toll Road to KM 414 of the Semarang-Batang Toll Road.
