TEMPO.CO, Denpasar - I Gusti Ngurah Rai Airport, Bali province, served a total of 1,751,427 passengers in February 2024, including 1,002,390 international travelers.

In Denpasar city on Saturday, general manager of the airport, Handy Heryudhitiawan, said that the airport accommodated one million international passengers traveling on 5,520 flights.

According to him, travelers arriving and departing from and to Singapore dominated the passenger traffic at 206,168, followed by Kuala Lumpur (135,768 passengers), and Perth (73,138 passengers).

"Regarding the number of the arrival of foreign travelers in February, Australian nationals were dominating, with 96,262 people coming to Bali," he informed, adding that Chinese and Indian citizens ranked second and third, accounting for 56,476 and 35,885 of the total travelers, respectively.

Meanwhile, 749,037 domestic passengers were served through a total of 5,388 flights during the same period, he added.

Heryudhitiawan highlighted that the airport has seen an increase in passenger traffic since January this year, adding that the number of passengers served in the first two months of this year has been 21 percent higher compared to the corresponding period of 2023.

In total, he said, the I Gusti Ngurah Rai airport served 3,555,108 passengers during the January–February 2024 period.

"The increase in the number of passengers served at the airport this year indicates that the tourism sector of Bali Island has continued to flourish," he pointed out.

He further said that the airport management has projected that the number of passengers will continue to rise ahead of Eid al-Fitr and summer.

According to him, several airlines have requested additional flights to several international destinations, such as Bengaluru, Abu Dhabi, Beijing, Taipei, Zhejiang, and Jiangsu.

This summer, a number of airlines are planning inaugural flights at the airport, including Etihad Airways, Indigo Airlines, and Starlux Airlines.

"We are still in coordination to decide on the fixed schedules of the inaugural flights. Hopefully, the flights will take place as soon as possible," he added.
