TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - President Joko Widodo aka Jokowi visited North Sumatra with First Lady Iriana on Thursday, March 14, 2024. During the visit, Jokowi is scheduled to inaugurate a red cooking oil pilot factory.
According to a written statement from the Presidential Secretariat, Jokowi and Iriana arrived at Kualanamu International Airport, North Sumatra at around 09:15 a.m. WIB (Western Indonesia Time). From the airport, Jokowi and his entourage continued their journey to Pagar Merbau palm oil mill in Deli Serdang Regency. The president is scheduled to inaugurate the Pagar Merbau red cooking oil pilot plant at the location.
Red cooking oil - also known as refined palm oil - is a product of crude palm oil that has gone through the refinery process. This oil is reportedly rich in antioxidants, such as vitamin E isomers (tocopherols and tocotrienols), and phytosterols.
The purpose of red cooking oil production in North Sumatra is to cut the length of the supply chain from upstream to downstream. This system diverges from crude palm oil (CPO) processing for ordinary cooking oil, which is generally produced in Java, and distributed to Sumatra, Kalimantan, and other regions.
In addition to inaugurating the red cooking oil factory, Jokowi and his entourage will also visit Tanjungbalai City using an Air Force Super Puma helicopter. The former Solo Mayor is scheduled to visit the Kawat Market and inaugurate several roads in North Sumatra.
Previously, Jokowi, Iriana, and their entourage departed from Jakarta through Halim Perdanakusuma Air Force Base at around 07:15 a.m. on a Presidential Airplane Indonesia-1.
PUPR Minister Basuki Hadimuljono departed alongside the president. In North Sumatra, the entourage was welcomed by the Acting Governor of North Sumatra Hassanudin, and several military and police officials.
