TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Commission for Missing Persons and Victims of Violence (KontraS) submitted a Request for Public Information to the Ministry of State Secretariat on March 4, 2024, urging transparency over the honorary general title granted to Defense Minister Prabowo Subianto.
“So far there has been no response from the Palace,” KontraS Coordinator, Dimas Bagus Arya, said in a statement on Wednesday, March 6, 2024.
Dimas said the request will likely be the same as KontraS’ request regarding the Bintang Jasa Utama honorary award to Eurico Guterres, who is the alleged perpetrator of crimes against humanity in Timor Leste.
“We suspect that this is akin to the previous case when the Palace bestowed an honorary star upon Eurico Gutteres without releasing any information to the public, and then we filed adjudication to the Central Information Commission,” Dimas said.
He explained that KontraS would contemplate a range of efforts to obtain an explanation from the palace regarding Prabowo’s special four-star title, including legal action.
“If there is no response or no publication of the Presidential Decree on the State Secretariat’s website, then we will use citizens' rights to obtain information,” Dimas said.
KontraS Deputy Coordinator for External Affairs Andi Muhammad Rezaldi and Head of Impunity Monitoring Division Jane Rosalina delivered the letter in person to the Ministry of State Secretariat Building at the Presidential Palace Complex in Jakarta. Under Law No. 14 of 2008 concerning Public Information. KontraS expected a response to its request within ten days
