TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Minister of Youth and Sports Dito Ariotedjo said that the strategy to promote F1 Powerboat among Indonesian citizens was to have Indonesian racers.
"In my opinion, the strategy for (F1 Powerboat) to become 'an epidemic' in the Indonesian society is for us to have homegrown riders," said Dito, as quoted from the official website of the Ministry of Youth and Sports in Jakarta, Friday.
Dito said that the F1 Powerboat is indeed more famous in European, American, and Middle Eastern countries. However, since Indonesia hosted the sport for the second time in 2024, people have become increasingly interested in it.
The Ministry of Youth and Sports, he said, is preparing steps to produce Indonesian F1 Powerboat racers through the establishment of an F1 Powerboat and Aquabike academy. Dito targeted Indonesia to have its own F1 Powerboat racers by 2027.
Additionally, future development of the F1 Powerboat sport will boost sport tourism in Indonesia which will have an impact on Indonesia's economic growth.
The 2024 F1 Powerboat will be held in Lake Toba, North Sumatra, this weekend. This event is a brandmark and an example of a sport tourism success story in Indonesia.
He added that the ministry was also paying close attention to several regions with world-class sport tourism potentials, such as Labuan Bajo for trail running as well as Lampung, Bali, NTB, and several areas in Sulawesi.
"Not only F1 Powerboat but modifications to several other world-class sports activities will be conducted," he concluded.
