TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Lombok Island has been ranked 5th in the Best Nature Destination in the World 2024, according to TripAdvisor’s Travelers Choice Award. Representing Asia, Lombok was ranked just behind Vietnam’s Halong Bay in the 4th position.
Other destinations included in the top ten best nature destinations by TripAdvisor are Kathmandu, Halong Bay, Hurghada, Mauritius, Kauai, Zanzibar, Grand Canyon, Guadeloupe, and Kruger Park.
According to the Director of Marketing and Communications of the NTB Regional Promotion Agency or BPPD NTB, Adit R Alfath, Lombok's nature tourism elements are indeed exhaustive. With a landscape dominated by mountains or hills, tourists can find terraced rice fields in every district.
The beauty of Lombok Island
Lombok’s beauty starts with Mount Rinjani, the crowd favorites for hikers around the world because of the beauty of Segara Anak, hundreds of waterfalls that flow at the foot of Rinjani, well-maintained forests, pink beach, and the dozens of dykes surrounding the island.
Apart from that, the existence of the Aquifer Layer Fault which is capable of holding large amounts of rainwater becomes a source of pure spring after hundreds of years. These faults could be found in the Benang Kelambu waterfall and the many springs that spread across villages in Narmada District, West Lombok Regency.
The main magnet of Lombok Island
Chairman of BPPD NTB, Baiq Ika Wahyu Wardhani, said that Lombok’s achievement as the only nature destination in Indonesia with a clear global recognition was proof that nature tourism is the main magnet that brings visitors to Lombok.
"So, hopefully in the future, we can also be wiser in organizing and managing our nature destination so that they concur more to the trendy eco-friendly or green tourism style," said Ika.
Lombok Island tourism will generally focus on nature-based, community-based, culture, and heritage preservation tourism by considering the eco-friendly aspect of the development.
"Isn't it clear that the reason tourists come to Lombok is because of the natural beauty we have? So why are we competing to change the face of our nature into a more modern tourism destination? " Ika concluded.
