Youth Forum to Hold Protest at ICW, Lokataru Over Racism Against Eastern Indonesians

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - A youth forum will hold a protest in front of The Indonesia Corruption Watch (ICW) office and the Lokataru office on Monday morning.
It was stated that the protest by the Eastern Indonesian Student Youth Forum would start at 09:00 a.m. local time. However, the crowd was yet to be seen until 10:52 a.m., based on Tempo’s observation in front of ICW’s office in Kalibata, South Jakarta.
"Based on information obtained, the number of demonstrators will be nearing 1,000 people," wrote the news spread on Monday, February 26, 2024.
ICW’s Knowledge Management Division Coordinator Wana Alamsyah confirmed the reports about the planned demonstration. "A group would indeed hold a protest at ICW," Wana told Tempo.
According to Wana, the protestors would demonstrate against racism toward the people of Eastern Indonesia. They will report the matter to the National Commission for Human Rights and the National Police Headquarters.
Lokataru Foundation Executive Director Delpedro Marhaen also confirmed the news that the office in Tebet would face a demonstration by the same crowd. "The Lokataru Foundation office was also visited by more than 200 police personnel and a water cannon," he said.
