TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Minister of Tourism and Creative Economy Sandiaga Uno targeted the development of 6,000 tourist villages throughout 2024 to boost national economic growth.
After giving a lecture on Blue Ocean Strategy Fellowship (BOSF) in Bogor on Sunday, Sandiaga explained that out of more than 80,000 villages in Indonesia, over 7,500 have tourism potential. “Around 7,500 villages have tourism potential and we must reach out to 80 percent of them or 6,000 villages,” he said.
The villages would then contribute around 4.5 percent of the national GDP and an increase of more than 4.4 million job opportunities in the field of creative economy.
“Villages are where the young generations birth innovations, including creative products that will increase the potential for tourist villages,” Sandiaga said.
The development of this tourism sector was kickstarted due to a positive trend post-COVID-19 pandemic of around a 30 percent spike in tourist village visits in Indonesia.
Thus far, Sandiaga mentioned, two of the tourist villages in Indonesia ranked among the best worldwide; Nglanggeran Village in Yogyakarta and Panglipuran Village in Bali.
“These achievements will be encouraged going forward,” Sandiaga Uno concluded.
