TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Jakarta Metro Jaya Police decided to deploy 7,706 joint personnel from the National Police and the Indonesian Military (TNI) to ensure the safety and security of polling stations or TPS during the 2024 general elections. Thousands of security personnel will be dispatched throughout the Metro Jaya Police jurisdiction.
“7,706 personnel comprising 6,506 police personnel and 1,200 military personnel are ready,” said Metro Jaya Police Chief Insp. Gen. Karyoto during the briefing ceremony of the 2024 TPS security force at the National Monument (Monas) area, Central Jakarta, on Feb. 13.
The briefing ceremony was also attended by Jakarta Military Regional Command, Major General Mohamad Hasan, and other police and military officials.
Karyoto also said the personnel are well-prepared to handle any emergency situations during the voting and counting process. There are at least 65,495 polling stations, which are categorized as less vulnerable, vulnerable, and very vulnerable to tensions.
“There are 64,333 TPS in the less vulnerable category, 976 TPS in the vulnerable category, and 21 TPS in the very vulnerable category,” he outlined.
Aside from securing the polling stations, Karyoto said that the security personnel would also safeguard and secure the ballot boxes from the TPS to the General Election Commission (KPU) office.
He further emphasized the importance of maintaining neutrality during the general elections and avoiding excessive action by the personnel in case of any escalation at the polling stations. “We are coordinating with TNI members, related stakeholders, and communities to contain the rising political heat at the polling stations."
