Indonesians in Turkiye Unite to Succeed Peaceful Elections

TEMPO.CO, Ankara, Turkey - Ahead of the 2024 General Election, the Indonesian community in Turkiye declared a peaceful election (3/2). This declaration was initiated by the Indonesian Overseas Election Committee in Ankara and Istanbul, involving election stakeholders and representatives from the Indonesian community in Turkey, according to the Indonesian Embassy in Ankara.
The declaration event, held at Liva Restaurant in Ankara, Turkey, was witnessed by the Indonesian Ambassador to Turkey, Achmad Rizal Purnama, and the Indonesian Consul General in Istanbul, Darianto Harsono.
"As representatives of Indonesia abroad, we need to continue to encourage efforts to uphold the principles of honest, accountable, and transparent elections to ensure the success of a peaceful election," stated Ambassador Rizal after the declaration, as reported from kemlu.go.id.
"With a total of 6,161 votes, we need to strengthen consolidation at the Indonesian community level in Turkey and avoid divisions," added Consul General Darianto.
"The Indonesian Student Association (PPI) Turkey, as the largest community component in Turkey, hopes that the 2024 elections will be carried out well and smoothly. PPI Turkey is committed to not favouring any party or candidate," expressed Mindy Syailah, a representative of PPI Turkey present at the event.
The Indonesian Embassy in Ankara and the Consulate General in Istanbul conveyed their request for support from all parties in organising the elections to achieve a high voter turnout and ensure they are conducted with the principles of direct, public, free, confidential, honest, and fair (LUBER)
The declaration includes a commitment to conducting a fair election with the aforementioned principles (LUBER), realising a safe, orderly, peaceful, and integrity-filled election without hoaxes, without the politicisation of ethnicity, religion, race, and among groups, as well as without vote-buying. It also emphasises participation in the elections under applicable laws and regulations.
The elections in Turkey will take place on February 11, 2024, at three polling stations in Ankara, Istanbul, and Sakarya. There will be a Mobile Ballot Box (KSK) in four cities representing pockets of the Indonesian community in Turkey. The Indonesian community in Turkey generally consists of students (from high school to doctoral level), married couples with Turkish citizens, spa therapists, and expatriates.
