TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Two pairs of presidential and vice presidential hopefuls, Anies Baswedan-Muhaimin Iskandar and Prabowo Subianto-Gibran Rakabuming Raka, will hold a grand campaign rally on the same day, February 10, at the Jakarta International Stadium (JIS) in North Jakarta and the Gelora Bung Karno (GBK) Stadium in Central Jakarta, respectively.
Comr. Gen. Fadil Imran, Chief of the National Police’s Security Maintenance Agency (Kabaharkam), confirmed that the police are ready to secure the big events.
“We have prepared security plans to prevent overlapping of crowds from the two camps,” Fadil said in an official statement on Friday, February 9.
He urged the campaign teams of each candidate pair to continue coordinating with the police to avert misunderstandings. “So the route arrangement will not be considered as a form of intervention, but rather to facilitate the smooth and orderly traffic of supporters,” Fadil said.
The police, he assured, would always adopt a humane approach and prioritize regulatory measures to ensure order.
The General Elections Commission (KPU) scheduled the three-day cooling-off period on Feb. 11-13, as the voting day will occur on February 14, 2024.
The presidential election features three pairs of presidential candidates, namely Anies Baswedan and Muhaimin Iskandar, Prabowo Subianto and Gibran Rakabuming Raka, and Ganjar Pranowo and Mahfud Md.
