KAI Records 44% Spike in Passengers During Isra Miraj, Chinese New Year Weekend

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Indonesian railways company PT KAI recorded a spike in passengers during the Isra Miraj and Chinese New Year long weekend. Train ticket reservations jumped 44 percent on Wednesday, Feb. 7, compared to the previous week.
VP of Public Relations of PT KAI Joni Martinus mentioned that cumulatively, the tickets sold during this period from Tuesday, Feb. 6 to Sunday, Feb. 11 reached 680,542 tickets or 113,424 per day on average. This amounted to 79 percent of the total 859,681 tickets prepared.
"The sale will continue to increase as it's still ongoing," Joni said in an official statement on Thursday, Feb. 8.
Favorite routes during this holiday period are the roundtrips for Jakarta-Surabaya, Jakarta-Solo, Yogyakarta-Banyuwangi, Bandung Blitar, and Surabaya-Banyuwangi.
Concerning the luggage, Joni explained no additional fee would be necessary for baggage under 20 kilograms, a maximum volume of 100 cubic dm, with dimensions no larger than 70x48x30 cm, and a maximum number of 4 cols.
However, passengers will be charged additional fees if exceeding this limit. For the executive class, the additional fee is Rp10,000 per kg, for business class Rp6,000 per kg, and for economy class Rp2,000 per kg.
