Govt Receives 462 Electric Buses from World Bank

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Indonesian government has received 462 electric buses from the World Bank. The buses will operate in a number of cities, such as Bandung and Medan.

"With this aid, we will have an adequate fiscal room. We will also receive 462 electric buses from the World Bank," said Transportation Minister Budi Karya Sumadi as quoted by Tempo on Monday, Feb. 5.

Budi Karya did not explain in detail about the distribution of the buses to Bandung and Medang. The minister however assured that a bus station revitalization is being rejuvenated in Bandung City, with at least 20 routes passing on the road.

"This will surely decrease Bandung City's traffic jam rate," he said. Budi also pointed out that Bandung City currently has two bus stations, including Leupiwarang and Cicaheum.

Leuwipanjang serves two routes from Bandung heading to the west, including Jakarta and Sumatra. Meanwhile, the Cicaheum Bus Station serves the route from Bandung heading to the east, such as Central Java and East Java.

Greater Bandung received a Rp1.3 trillion budget to improve the quality of transport services. The fund is also utilized to develop infrastructures such as bus stops and 20-kilometer special lines.
