Police Arrest Mexican Fugitive Involved in Bali Shooting in East Java

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Indonesian police have arrested Mexican fugitive Sicairos Valdes Roberto in Nganjuk Bus Station, East Java.
"He was about to escape to Jakarta," the National Police Director of Criminal Investigation Brigadier General Djuhandhani Rahardjo Puro confirmed to Tempo on Friday, February 2, 2024.
Sicairos was involved in the shooting of a Turkish national Turan Mahmet, aged 30, in Bali.
Djuhandhani said the Mexican national ran from Bali and was arrested at Nganjuk Bus Station on January 30 at around 02:00 p.m. local time.
Sicairos was one of four foreigners from Mexico named suspects by Bali regional police in the Turkish national shooting case. The other three suspects had been arrested in Bali; Aramburo Contreras Jose Alfonso (32), Mayorquin Eacobedo Juan Antonio (24), and Deraz Gonzalez Victor Eduardo (36).
"[Sicairos] was the mastermind in the case," Djuhandhani said.
The shooting occurred on Tuesday, January 23, 2024, in a villa in Badung, Bali, at 01:18 a.m. local time. Turan Mehmet, the victim, was injured at the shooting, The suspects and victim did not know each other.
According to immigration data, Turan Mehmet entered Bali on December 7, 2023, using a visa on arrival as a tourist. Meanwhile, Sicairos Valdes Roberto entered Bali on December 12, 2023, also with a visa on arrival as a tourist.
The motive behind the shooting is believed to be an attempted robbery at the villa. The suspects also made off with Rp 30 million and US$ 4,000 from the villa.
They will face multiple charges, including Article 340 in conjunction with Article 53 of the Indonesian Criminal Code concerning attempted premeditated murder.
