Pertamina Discovers Hydrocarbon in South Sumatra's Musi Rawas with 218bpd Oil Potential

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - PT Pertamina Hulu Rokan (PHR) Regional Sumatra has made another discovery of hydrocarbons, which is a sign that there is petroleum. The hydrocarbon was found in an exploration well in Musi Rawas, South Sumatra.

Yudy Nugraha, senior manager relations at PHR Regional Sumatra, said that an extended flow test result shows the well is estimated to have a gas resource of 0.13 million standard cubic feet per day (MMSCFD) and 218 barrels of oil per day.

"With these findings, we grow more optimistic that the surrounding area also has great potential and this is already a proven resource," he said on Thursday, February 1.

PHR is part of Pertamina's Upstream Subholding that discovered oil and gas sources from drilling the Violet Orchid Exploration Well (AVO)-001 in the Pertamina EP Working Area in Musi Rawas. Yudy said that the Violet Anggrek Well was drilled on November 13 last year using the Rig 01.2 operated by PT Pertamina Drilling Services Indonesia (PDSI). PDSI then succeeded in proving the presence of hydrocarbons through a drill stem test (DST) on January 23.

"We hope that the discovery of 100% hydrocarbon oil in the Anggrek Violet well will open new opportunities for exploration drilling with the play concept of stratigraphic traps in other areas in South Sumatra.

This hydrocarbon discovery, the first in 2024, has the potential to increase new oil and gas resources and reserves in the South Sumatra Basin. PHR hopes that the findings can contribute significantly to increasing reserves and achieving the national oil and gas production targets, which is set to reach 12 billion standard cubic feet of gas per day (BSCFD) and 1 million barrels of oil per day (MBOPD) by 2030.
