Bawaslu Reveals Reason Behind Anies Baswedan's Advertisement Take Down

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The General Elections Supervisory Agency (Bawaslu) Bekasi explained the reason behind the takedown of Anies Baswedan's Videotron in Jl. KH Noer Alie. As occurred in Jakarta, the Videotron advertisement was up for less than a day on Monday over the agreed five-day run.

The head of Bawaslu Bekasi Vidya Nurul Fathia said the order to take down the ads came from Metland, a developer company. The five units of Videotrons are indeed standing on Grand Metropolitan owned by Metland. 

"The land is owned by Metland but has been rented to third parties, to a vendor," Vidya told reporters in Bekasi on Friday.

According to Vidya, Anies Baswedan's ads violated the terms of the contract between Metland and the owners of the Videotron. "The videotrons were rented for commercial ads and commercial products, not politics or political campaigns," Vidya said.

Bawaslu will ask for statements from the owners of the Videotrons and the organizers of the Anies Baswedan ads.

"The ads were broadcast on the 15th of January and were taken down the same day, in accordance with the contract with Metland," Vidya said.

The take-down of K-pop-like ads of Anies Baswedan in Bekasi and Jakarta has gone viral these past few days. The ads, organized by the Olppaemi Project, were taken down the same day it was broadcast. The organizers claimed to have not been notified of the reason for the take-down.
