TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The head of the Jakarta Environment Office Asep Kuswanto stated that the agency will resume emissions test raids starting January 2024. However, he ensured that no ticketing would be applied during the raid.
"For the ticketing, we are still waiting [on further information] from the police," he told Tempo on Monday, Jan. 1, 2024.
The Jakarta provincial government, he said, is still waiting for the decision by the Metro Jaya police department to implement a ticketing fine. The regulation is still underway, according to Asep.
"There is no development on that front, the regulation for the emissions test ticketing is not finished, but emissions test raids will be resumed," he said.
Previously in November, Asep said punishment is necessary for vehicles that do not pass the emissions test. According to him, public awareness of the issue was still low.
He explained that officers on the ground were only authorized to recommend drivers to conduct vehicle service if it failed to pass the emissions test. But the agency still found many vehicles driving on the road despite it.
The government through the Ministry of Environment and Forestry and Ministry of Home Affairs is currently drafting the regulation stipulating the emissions test fine for those failing to pass the test.
