TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Jakarta Health Agency is set to begin implementing the self-paid COVID-19 vaccination starting January 1, 2024. The agency’s head Ani Ruspitawati appealed to residents who have not completed the vaccination up to the fifth dose to immediately visit the nearest government health service facility while the vaccine remains free.
“Starting from January 1, 2024, people will have to pay for their own COVID-19 vaccination,” Ani said in Jakarta on Thursday, Dec. 28, as reported by Antara.
The paid vaccine will apply to all doses. However, the agency will continue to provide free vaccines to several vulnerable groups, including the elderly.
Ani stopped short of revealing the price of the vaccine, the mechanism, and the service, claiming that the matter is still waiting for the Health Ministry. “We are waiting for the Health Ministry's regulations,” she added.
Until the end of 2023, Ani assured that free vaccination will still be available at all sub-district health centers in the capital.
To prevent the spread of the new virus variants, the Jakarta government called on the public to receive the full course of COVID-19 vaccination, to wear masks in crowds, and to maintain good health during the New Year holidays.
Previously in June this year, President Joko Widodo or Jokowi reminded that the government would no longer cover medical treatment for COVID-19 patients after the status change from pandemic to endemic.
