TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Presidential candidate Anies Baswedan promises to provide capital aid for market sellers if elected as president in the upcoming general elections in 2024.
"We are hoping that they would form cooperatives that will be given capital aid," Anies said after his visit to Flamboyan Market in Pontianak on Tuesday, Dec. 26.
During his visit, Anies mentioned that prices have increased due to the decline in people's purchasing power. Consequently, the seller's profits are slowing down significantly.
Not only in Pontianak, Anies claimed, this phenomenon also occurs in several cities that he visited.
Anies also claimed that he would provide training for market sellers to improve the transactional activities in the markets. He also promised to improve commerce to ensure lower market prices.
"Market prices must never be expensive. We found that the prices from farmers, livestock farmers, and fishermen are fairly cheap but it is blown once reaching the markets, we will correct this," he said.
Anies Baswedan arrived at Supadio International Airport in West Kalimantan this morning at 08:00 a.m. local time. He was welcomed by the Potong Pantan (cutting down sugarcane) procession, a symbol of breaking down future dangers or challenges.
The head of Anies-Muhaimin's regional winning team Syarif Abdullah Alkadrie mentioned that his side will target over 65 percent vote for the pair in West Kalimantan.
"The target is 65 percent votes for Anies in West Kalimantan," he said ahead of Anies' arrival on Tuesday.
To reach the target, Syarif said volunteers and the political parties backing Anies Baswedan and Muhaimin Iskandar are on fire. "We will have strength if united," he said.
The NasDem Party's politician also expressed his hope for regional expansion of West Kalimantan if Anies is elected as president. "And it was responded well by Pak Anies, concerning West Kalimantan development considering the width of this region. We need an expansion in the form of an eastern province," he said.
