TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The campaigning team of each running presidential candidate; Anies Baswedan, Prabowo Subianto, and Ganjar Pranowo, highlighted the electric vehicle (EV) policies promised to be implemented if their winning candidate is elected.
The coordinator of Anies Baswedan-Muhaimin Iskandar's vision and mission drafters, Wijayanto Samirin, said his side would push electric vehicles in Indonesia by expediting electric public transportation.
"We will develop electric public transportation, which has been implemented in Jakarta, in which every new bus must be electric," he said on Tuesday during a presidential strategy debate event in Jakarta.
According to Wijayanto, this policy will be implemented across 40 cities developed by the presidential pair number 1. "We will form an Agency of City Affairs to coordinate the development of cities to allow for mutual learning and package deals for several projects to make it cheaper. For example, buying 10 electric buses is more expensive than buying 1,000 units for several cities at the same time," he said.
Meanwhile, the winning team of the running pair number 2, Prabowo Subianto-Gibran Rakabuming Raka, will employ a different strategy. Deputy treasurer of Prabowo-Gibran's winning team Bobby Gafur Umar mentioned that the running pair will provide more charging stations for electric vehicles if elected.
"There is a necessary ecosystem to be developed, namely a charging system," he said.
Bobby's side will also amend the regulation currently governing electric vehicles, albeit he forewent any details on what kind of regulation Prabowo-Gibran will launch if elected in the upcoming general elections.
In a different direction, running pair number 3, Ganjar Pranowo-Mahfud Md, will focus on the nickel industry when talking about electric vehicles.
Executive secretary of Ganjar-Mahfud's team, Heru Dewanto, stated that nickel development is currently dominated by China, and Indonesia is only able to supply 25 percent of the global EV market.
"What we will do is to implement a different technology than what we already have to optimize the utilization of nickel resources to supply 75 percent, instead of 25 percent, of global EV demand," Heru remarked.
