TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Indonesia's Head of the National Counter-Terrorism Agency (BNPT) Mohammed Rycko Amelza Dahniel is optimistic that Indonesia's cooperation in counter-terrorism with the United Kingdom will be mutually beneficial for both countries.

Dahniel noted in a written statement received on Tuesday that Indonesia and the UK have collaborated for the exchange of experience, intelligence sharing, and capacity building to strengthen efforts against terrorism.

"Indonesia is committed to continuing the implementation of counter-terrorism cooperation with the UK. This will bring a mutually beneficial impact for both countries," he stated.

According to Dahniel, cooperation between Indonesia and the UK continues to show positive progress since the inking of a memorandum of understanding (MoU) in 2021.

"Both countries have shown very good progress since the MoU signing on counter-terrorism in 2021," he stated.

Meanwhile, UK Minister of State for Security Tom Tugendhat praised BNPT's performance that focused on recovery of victims of terrorism along with the Indonesian Witness and Victim Protection Agency (LPSK).

"Appreciation to BNPT and LPSK that have paid attention to victims of acts of terrorism. LPSK has visited victims of the Bali bombing in the UK," he remarked.

Dahniel earlier held the second meeting of the Joint Working Group on Counter Terrorism (JWG on CT) in London on December 5.

In the activity, the two countries reaffirmed their commitment to strengthening cooperation in the field of counter-terrorism, especially related to important points that have been agreed upon.

Dahniel also took the time to meet with Indonesian students in the UK to teach them about the importance of caring for national values.

According to Dahniel, the national values must be maintained amid the heterogeneous Indonesian society.
