1. No Travel Requirements Related to COVID-19 So Far, Says Transport Ministry
Indonesia's Ministry of Transportation has said that so far, no requirements have been laid down to control travel or people's movement during the Christmas and New Year holidays despite an increase in COVID-19 cases.
"Currently, there are none (COVID-19 travel requirements). Everything is still in the form of an appeal; there are no mandatory protocols for travelers," the ministry's spokesperson, Adita Irawati, said at a press conference on the Christmas and New Year preparations in Jakarta on Monday, December 11, 2023.
She noted that regarding travel requirements or conditions related to COVID-19, the Ministry of Transportation will refer to the related ministries or agencies, such as the Ministry of Health.
2. Jakarta Govt Urges Mask Wearing, Vaccination to Prevent COVID-19 Spread
The provincial government of Jakarta has stressed the wearing of masks and vaccinations for vulnerable groups to prevent the spread of COVID-19.
"Wear a mask and take part in vaccinations for vulnerable groups," head of epidemiological surveillance and immunization at the Jakarta Health Service, Ngabila Salama, said on Monday, December 11, 2023.
Salama urged people to be more strict about wearing masks, washing their hands diligently, maintaining good room ventilation, and avoiding cigarette smoke.
3. Indonesia to Partake in Advisory Opinion on Palestine at International Court of Justice
Indonesia recently reiterated its support for Palestine and will participate in the investigation of human rights violations happening in Gaza. This was conveyed by Foreign Affairs Minister Retno Marsudi at a high-level event on the human rights situation in Palestine on Tuesday, Dec. 12, in Geneva, Switzerland.
“Here, in this building, at this very moment, it is very relevant for us to discuss the situation in Gaza and how we can make a difference for humanity and human rights,” Retno said at the event, which was held on the occasion of the 75th anniversary of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights, or also known as Human Rights Day.
She called on countries to push for an immediate and lasting ceasefire in Gaza, to reject double standards in upholding human rights, and to support the accountability mechanisms, which are currently underway by the Independent International Commission of Inquiry established by the United Nations Human Rights Council.
