PT GoTo Gojek Tokopedia (GoTo) announced its partnership with TikTok today, Monday, Dec. 11, 2023. Through this partnership, Tokopedia and TikTok Shop Indonesia will merge under PT Tokopedia. TikTok also agreed to invest US$1.5 billion in GoTo.
"TikTok will invest more than US$1.5 billion, as a long-term commitment to support the operational of Tokopedia, without further dilution on GoTo's ownership of Tokopedia," announced GoTo on Monday.
GoTo hopes the transaction will be finished in the first quarter of 2024.
2. Jakarta Health Office Confirms Death of 2 COVID-19 Positive Patients
The Jakarta Health Office confirmed two deaths of COVID-19 positive cases in December 2023.
"These cases were found after no COVID-19 deaths for two consecutive months in October and November in Jakarta," said the Head of Surveillance, Epidemiology, and Immunization Division Ngabila Salma on Monday, Dec. 11.
The two COVID-19-positive deaths occurred to two elderly women patients. The first one was an 81-year-old woman with comorbid hypertension. She had been vaccinated up to the third dose.
3. Prabowo Subianto Promises to Continue Jokowi's Downstream Ambition
Presidential candidate number 2 Prabowo Subianto claimed that he's striving to realize President Joko Widodo's ambition of downstream in every sector.
"[Jokowi] stated, multiple times, that without downstream, our people would not be prosperous. Our country would not be strong, he said," Prabowo remarked during a consolidation of the Prabowo-Gibran winning team in Bogor, West Java on Sunday.
According to Prabowo, other countries are wary that Indonesia is adopting downstream policies since most countries want Indonesia's natural resources for cheap.
