TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Indonesia's Deputy Minister of Communication and Information, Nezar Patria, said the ministry will issue a Circular on Artificial Intelligence (AI) Code of Ethics in the near future. The circular is expected to serve as a guideline for the governance of AI use in Indonesia.
"We hope it will be in December 2023. It could be next week, but basically in December," Nezar said at the Royal Kuningan Hotel on Tuesday, December 5.
According to Nezar, the AI Ethics Circular will be a guide for the development of AI ecosystem in Indonesia. Starting from the use of AI for business actors and genera; use by the public. From its design to development and then the utilization, AI developers can refer to the circular.
He said that the circular can be categorized as a soft regulation, without an imperative impact. "So it's just an ethical reference," said Nezar.
As for electronic and digital products, they have their own regulations, such as the Information and Electronic Transactions Law (UU ITE) and the Personal Data Protection Law (UU PDP).
"The artificial intelligence ethics circular is more intended to be a reference for norms that can be adopted by the AI development ecosystem," Nezar said.
