TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Director General of Information and Public Communication at the Communication and Information (Kominfo) Ministry, Usman Kansong, responded to the alleged data leak of the 2024 final voter list (DPT) in the General Elections Commission (KPU) system. He said the ministry had made various efforts to address the issue.
“Upon receiving information about the DPT leak, Kominfo wrote an electronic letter to the KPU to ask for clarification,” Usman said at the Kominfo Office in Jakarta, on Monday, Dec. 4, 2023.
He added that this was as stipulated in the Law on the Protection of Personal Data (UU PDP). “Well, the KPU should provide clarification within 3 x 24 hours. I will check later if there is any clarification from KPU to Kominfo,” Usman said.
At the same time, Usman went on, the Kominfo ministry had investigated the alleged data breach and revealed that based on the preliminary findings, there were similarities between the data circulating in the public space and the data on the KPU website.
“The Kominfo Ministry has also coordinated with the BSSN (State Cyber and Encryption Agency), the National Police, and the KPU, on how we can prevent this from recurring in the future, both concerning elections and with other electronic system organizers,” said Usman.
In addition, Usman said his side had briefed the House of Representatives (DPR) Commission I about steps taken by the ministry in response to the alleged DPT leak.
Personal details of voters were allegedly breached and traded on online forums. An account called Jimbo uploaded 252 million data, which he claimed to have obtained from the KPU website. The leaked personal data includes identification number (NIK), family card number (KK), full name, gender, etc.
