TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Indonesian Trade Ministry through the Directorate General of Consumer Protection and Business Order (PKTN) held a meeting with PT Mitra Muda Jaya or PK Entertainment, the organizing committee of the Coldplay concert in Jakarta on November 15, 2023, to address consumer complaints.
“The Trade Ministry is following up on consumer complaints, in this case, concert ticket buyers claimed they were being disadvantaged,” PKTN Director General Moga Simatupang said in his statement on Monday, Dec. 4, 2023.
He explained that consumers purchased tickets on the official website but were unable to enter the venue since their tickets could not be scanned.
During the meeting, PK Entertainment's legal representative Joy Munthe said his side was responsible for the official ticket purchase via www.coldplayinjakarta.com, which was sent to the consumer's registered email address.
Joy explained that each e-ticket has a unique code that must be scanned upon entry to the concert venue. The problems occurred because there were individuals who purchased tickets from the official website, duplicated them, and resold them to other parties.
Regarding the broken ultimate ticket gate, Joy said it was because people who could not enter the venue broke down the gate even though PK Entertainment had mobilized a security and crowd control team at each gate. “We deployed 1,043 security personnel and 4,000 police officers,” he added.
In addition to the ticketing issues, other complaints included inadequate and messy queues, long queues at food stalls, and fainting attendees. In his defense, Joy said his side had disseminated the concert guidelines but such incidents still happened since many consumers did not comply with the rules.
Joy also said that his side had provided 60 food stalls, two main health posts, 12 supporting health posts, 28 doctors, 120 nurses, and 18 ambulances in the concert area. This information was posted on PK Entertainment's social media accounts.
He said visitors could read instructions or ask ushers in the Coldplay concert area about the location of food stalls and other supporting facilities. "We have also treated consumers who had health problems. These issues are the evaluation for PK Entertainment so that similar things can be minimized and not repeated,” Joy concluded.
