TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Presidium Council member of the University of Indonesia Alumni Forum (FAUI), Pande K. Trimayuni, requested President Joko Widodo or Jokowi to take a leave from his post until the 2024 election is over in order to maintain neutrality and the integrity of the election.
FAUI found strong suspicion of intimidation of village officials by law enforcement officials to support a certain candidate in the 2024 election possibly because of the participation of the President's eldest son, Gibran Rakabuming Raka.
“We hope that the president can maintain his neutrality or it would be wiser for the president to take a leave,” Pande said.
Visna Vulovik, another FAUI member, also said that the leave is necessary to maintain the neutrality of government officials at all levels and the integrity of the 2024 presidential election.
“We are concerned that if government officials do not remain neutral during the ongoing election process, people's trust in the country will decline,” Visna added.
Earlier, Pande opined that Gibran's participation in the presidential election could pose a risk of significant conflict of interest for the president.
Dedy also cited the example of the conflict of interest of Anwar Usman, who is the former Chief Justice of the Constitutional Court and brother-in-law of President Jokowi, which ended in his dismissal for ethical violations.
“We are also very concerned about recent incidents involving the mobility of village officials to support certain candidates. There have even been reports of police summoning village officials for questioning in Karanganyar Regency, Central Java,” Dedy said.
