Police Aim to Bar KPK's Firli Bahuri from Overseas Travel Amid Extortion Case

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Metro Jaya Police submitted a request to bar the Chairman of Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) Firli Bahuri from traveling overseas following his status as a suspect in the extortion case against former Minister of Agriculture Syahrul Yasin Limpo.
The Director of Special Crimes Investigation Chief Commissioner Ade Safri Simanjuntak stated that the request was submitted to the Ministry of Law and Human Rights today, Friday, Nov. 24, 2023. "The request for an overseas travel ban against [Firli Bahuri] as KPK Chairman for the next 20 days for the sake of investigation," Ade said on Friday.
The request has been received by the ministry.
Firli Bahuri was officially named as a suspect in the alleged extortion case on Wednesday, Nov. 22. Previously, Firli Bahuri has been probed twice by the police and will be probed again in his capacity as a suspect. However, Ade Safri did not provide any further details on the date and time of future probings against the KPK Chairman.
The investigation team, Ade said, scheduled another witness examination on Monday, Nov. 27 for the next seven days. Several experts will also be examined, including 4 criminal law experts, 1 procedural law expert, 1 micro expression expert, and 1 digital forensics expert.
