TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Acting Governor of Jakarta Heru Budi Hartono explained that there are 257 flood-risked spots in the province. In East Jakarta specifically, he said, the risk of flooding was spread throughout 25 sub-districts.

Thus, the provincial government of Jakarta is taking measures to anticipate this situation ahead of the rainy season.

"According to the information relayed by the Meteorology, Climatology, and Geophysical Agency (BMKG), we need to be vigilant of the rain and other [weather-related] things in February," Heru Budi said in East Jakarta on Friday, Nov. 24.

Jakarta, Heru Budi admitted, could not be free from flooding or water puddles in certain areas. However, his administration is making an effort to accelerate the period during which the flood water recedes and to minimize the effects of the rain.

The former Mayor of North Jakarta urged all related stakeholders to routinely inspect the readiness of all disaster management equipment, facilities, and infrastructure at district and sub-district levels.

Heru Budi also asked for an inter-office synergy in relation to disaster management, especially from the Water Resources Office to ensure water pumps in the province are all functioning optimally.

The acting governor also asked mayors in Jakarta to ensure all necessary equipment was ready, including the human resources.

"Make sure that the communication equipment is functioning well all the time. North Jakarta, West Jakarta, may need additional attention, so make sure your handy talkies (HT) would function for 24 hours," he said.
