TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Indonesian President Joko Widodo or Jokowi was scheduled to attend the extraordinary Islamic summit of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, on Sunday, Nov. 12. This will take place before the meeting with U.S. President Joe Biden at the White House on Nov. 13.
“The President will attend the Extraordinary Summit of OIC to discuss Gaza,” the Presidential Special Staffer, Ari Dwipayana, said in a press statement in Jakarta on Wednesday evening.
Saudi Arabia's Foreign Affairs Ministry announced in a statement on Tuesday that Saudi would host a summit for Arab countries in Riyadh on Saturday, Nov. 11, and another one for OIC members, including Iran, on Sunday, Nov. 12, to discuss the ongoing Israeli aggression against the Palestinian people in Gaza.
Following the OIC summit, the Indonesian President will leave for the United States to meet with Biden at the White House in Washington DC.
Dwipayana confirmed that the meeting was at the invitation of the U.S. President. “President Joe Biden invites President Joko Widodo to visit Washington DC on November 13, 2023. This invitation was sent several months ago,” he claimed.
Dwipayana did not elaborate on the points Jokowi would make both at the upcoming OIC summit in Riyadh and the meeting with Joe Biden at the White House.
