TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - President Director of Jakarta-owned developer Jakpro Iwan Takwin said FIFA planned to visit the Jakarta International Stadium (JIS) soon to conduct an inspection ahead of the 2023 U-17 World Cup.
“FIFA will make a visit [to JIS],” Iwan said after the groundbreaking ceremony of LRT Jakarta Phase 1B at the Jakarta International Velodrome, Rawamangun, East Jakarta, on Monday, October 30, 2023.
Iwan, however, stopped short of elaborating on the date. “Just wait for it. We will welcome them,” he said.
In mid-October, Jakarta Acting Governor Heru Budi Hartono visited Asia’s largest stadium by capacity in North Jakarta. He said players and officials could go straight to the dressing rooms as soon as they got off the bus.
He also inspected the stadium’s facilities, including the escalators, the press conference room with 126 orange chairs, and the hybrid grass on the main field of JIS for the U-17 World Cup.
Jakpro’s spokesperson Melisa said the escalator project is 90 percent complete. “It is targeted to be finished in the fourth week of October 2023,” she told Tempo.
