TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Transportation Ministry’s Director General of Civil Aviation, Maria Kristi Endah Murni, has opened up about the presence of a new airline named Surya Airways.
Kristi confirmed that Surya Airways is still in the process of obtaining its business permit and could not yet operate as there are still many process requirements to be fulfilled.
She explained that applying for a permit to establish a new airline needs to go through an administrative process referring to the applicable laws and regulations, namely the Transportation Minister’s Regulation No. 35 of 2021 on air transport.
“At present, the airline already has a Scheduled Commercial Air Transport Business Standard Certificate (SS-AUNB), but must comply with all applicable statutory requirements and provisions before it can operate,” Kristi said in a press statement on Friday, October 20, 2023.
Kristi said the issuance of an Air Transport Operation Certificate (AOC) takes a minimum period of ninety days depending on the applicant's readiness to fulfill the applicable stages.
After the issuance of the AOC, prospective new airlines are required to submit route permits and standard operating procedures for passenger services to the Directorate General of Civil Aviation, under the provisions of the regulation.
“After going through lengthy mandatory procedures, we hope that the new airlines will be able to compete healthily with other national airlines in order to improve the aviation industry in Indonesia,” said Kristi.
