TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - State-owned railway operator PT Kereta Api Indonesia or KAI Operational Area (Daop) 6 Yogyakarta recorded 3,851 ticket cancellations from Tuesday to Thursday, October 17-19, 2023, following the Argo Semeru Train and Argo Wilis Train accident in Wates, Kulonprogo, on Tuesday.
Krisbiyantoro, the company’s spokesperson, said the train derailment on the Sentolo - Wates track affected the train's operation pattern and led to ticket cancellations.
“Tickets with a departure on October 17 and later can be canceled within seven days from October 17 (departure date),” Krisbiyantoro told reporters in Solo City on Thursday afternoon, Oct. 19.
He mentioned that ticket cancellations could be processed at several stations, including Yogyakarta, Lempuyangan, Solo Balapan, Solo Jebres, Klaten, Sragen, Salem, Wates, and Purwosari stations.
When asked about potential losses, Krisbiyantoro claimed the company is still calculating as it remains focused and committed to providing safety and optimal service to all customers.
He confirmed that train travel passing Sentolo Station - Wates Station has gradually returned to normal, even though the speed is still restricted to a maximum of 40 km/hour from upstream and a maximum of 10 km/hour from downstream.
“Several trains are still experiencing delays due to evacuation and track repairs in the area between Sentolo - Wates,” he said.
Krisbiyantoro said KAI Daop 6 apologized to all customers who experienced delays as a result of the track restoration process between Sentolo Station and Wates Station following the Argo Semeru train accident.
