TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Indonesian Trade Ministry stated that the 38th Trade Expo Indonesia (TEI) recorded US$4.9 billion in transactions on its first day, with 99 trade deals signed. India contributed the largest transaction value of US$3.3 billion.

Deputy Trade Minister Jerry Sambuaga witnessed the signing of the deals on the sidelines of the TEI 2023 at the Indonesia Convention Exhibition or ICE BSD, Tangerang, on Wednesday, October 18.

“A total of 99 trade contracts were signed between foreign importers and Indonesian business players worth US$4.9 billion. This signing is expected to produce sustainable concrete transactions,” Jerry said in a press statement on Thursday, October 19.

Other countries that inked trade contracts were Australia (US$77.67 million), the UK (US$44 million), South Korea (US$23.20 million), Saudi Arabia (US$18.10 million), Taiwan (US$13.87 million), Philippines (US$13.32 million), Brazil (US$11.20 million), Spain (US$10.80 million), South Africa (US$4.37 million), Germany (US$2.04 million), Egypt (US$553,440), Hungary (US$ 80,000), and Bangladesh (US$70,000).

“Indonesian products included in the trade agreements include palm oil products, food and beverages, paper products, furniture, solar panels, fishery products, coal, coconut products, personal care products, coffee, and others,” Jerry outlined.

The Deputy Trade Minister expressed his appreciation to the heads of Indonesian representatives abroad who had facilitated the signing of the MoU. “I’d also like to express my appreciation for the enthusiasm of the exporters and trading partners who attended and actively participated in today's signing,” he said.

Jerry added that in line with the theme of this year’s expo, "Sustainable Trade for Global Economic Resilience", the trust and enthusiasm of foreign entrepreneurs towards Indonesian entrepreneurs is a momentum to realize sustainable trade.

“We hope that Indonesian business players and stakeholders can continue to develop better and closer business relationships with their overseas counterparts,” Jerry concluded.
