TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - President Joko "Jokowi" Widodo officially opened the 38th Trade Expo Indonesia (TEI) International Exhibition at the Indonesia Convention Exhibition, BSD City, Tangerang, on Wednesday, October 18, 2023. He stressed that Indonesian producers must be competitive and control the market.
“We must not let our guard down. We must not just be a market. We must become players, producers, who are competitive and control the market,” he said in his virtual speech at the 38th Trade Expo Indonesia on Wednesday.
He said this year's expo has opened up market opportunities for non-traditional markets. “Moreover, I've been informed that this year’s event is also focused on opening up market opportunities from non-traditional markets, such as the Middle East, South Asia, and Africa, which are conducted offline and online,” he added.
The Trade Expo Indonesia, according to him, allows local exporters to meet face-to-face with potential buyers who want to see their products and negotiate directly. “So that it facilitates interaction and opens up more transaction opportunities,” he said.
The state head lauded the Trade Ministry for organizing the international event. “This is very good, and I expect this to continue so that we can keep doing market diversification and market expansion so that Indonesian entrepreneurs, Indonesian MSMEs, and the Indonesian local product industry can progress and become an important part of the global supply chain,” Jokowi said.
The Trade Expo Indonesia is an annual trade exhibition organized by the Trade Ministry. This year, TEI was held hybrid at the ICE BSD City, Tangerang, on October 18-22, 2023, and online from October 18 to December 18, 2023, through the official website www.tradexpoindonesia.com. At least 144 countries with 11,322 buyers are expected to attend.
In this year's event, the exhibition is divided into seven product zones: food and beverage; household; services and digital; beauty and personal care; chemical, energy, and industrial; medical and health equipment, and fashion, textiles, and accessories.
The Trade Ministry also held other supporting activities during Trade Expo Indonesia, such as business matching, business consultations by Indonesian trade representatives abroad, international seminars, and business dialogues with ambassadors of friendly countries.
