TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Acting Governor of Jakarta Heru Budi Hartono revealed that there are two name options for Jakarta after it loses its capital city status. They are the Jakarta Special Region and the Jakarta Economic Region.
“Jakarta can possibly be renamed to Jakarta Special Region or Jakarta Special Economic Region,” Heru said in the podcast hosted by the Jakarta Financial Management Body (BPKD) in Jakarta on Thursday, October 12.
Heru said that the central government was still considering the two names and that the decision was in the hands of the House of Representatives (DPR) or the Ministry of Home Affairs.
Apart from that, Heru assessed that Jakarta needs international-standard universities and museums to prepare to become a global city.
On October 2, Heru Budi said that the city administration had set up a special team to prepare and refine proposals for academic texts and bills regarding the Jakarta Special Region (DKJ), following the central government’s directive.
The bill would include a discourse on the establishment of a regional council, which is aimed at synergizing the development of Jakarta and its neighbors Bogor, Depok, Tangerang, Bekasi, and Cianjur.
