TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Meteorology, Climatology, and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) recorded 35.6 degrees Celsius temperature in Bandung, the highest in five years, on Sunday, October 8, 2023. "Over the past five years, this year is Bandung's hottest year, surpassing 35.6 degrees Celsius," Yan Firdaus from BMKG Bandung said on Monday, October 9, 2023.

This past week, the hottest temperature in Bandung has been gradually increasing. Reflecting on the normal maximum temperature in Bandung in October, namely 30.1 degrees Celsius, BMKG stated that the extreme hottest temperatures are recorded from four days, October 1, 3, 6, 7, and 8.

According to BMKG, extreme temperature could be defined when the temperatures are 3 degrees Celsius higher than the normal temperature. The main factor to this phenomenon, Yan Firdaus said, is the lack of clouds at the peak of the dry season which causes the light from the sun to directly hit the earth without a buffer.

Another factor is related to the El Nino phenomenon and positive IOD. "Additionally, the factors are climate change, since the global trend shows an increase in temperatures across the globe due to climate change," Yan said.

The weather in Bandung today is partly cloudy to cloudy all day with the temperature ranging from 21 to 33.7 degrees Celsius. Specific to Lembang and its surrounding region, the temperature ranges from 17.6 to 27.8 degrees Celsius with an air humidity level of 30 to 85 percent. The wind generally moves from northwest to northeast with 16 to 20 kilometers per hour maximum velocity.

Meanwhile, light rain is forecasted to drizzle over Bandung tomorrow in the afternoon all the way into the night. The temperature ranges from 20.1 to 32.2 degrees Celsius. Lembang and its surrounding region will record 17 to 27.2 degrees Celsius.
