TEMPO.CO, BogorThree students of Syiah Kuala University (USK) have successfully been selected to join the New Southbound Policy Youth Elite Exchange Program (Yeep) at Taiwan's National Quemoy University for five months.

The students are Ahmad Zaki Marjan, Ziad Muhammad, and Aura Lativa, USK Deputy Rector for Academic Affairs Professor Agussabti said, as quoted by ANTARA from the university's official website on Sunday, October 8, 2023.

Both Marjan and Muhammad are students of the English Department at the Teacher Training and Education Faculty, while Aura Lativa is an engineering student, he said.

They have been at the National Quemoy University since September. During their participation in the exchange program until early next year, they are facilitated to take Mandarin courses for 12 hours a week.

They are also given opportunities to interact with the Taiwanese university's faculty staff and partners, as well as representatives from companies, Agussabti said.

The USK students succeeded in an international selection process recently held by a Taiwanese committee, he said, while urging them to study hard and build an international network during their stay in Taiwan.

Prior to his trip to Taiwan, Ahmad Zaki Marjan had participated in the World Tsunami Awareness Day Event in Okinawa, Japan, and the USK Teaching Program in Thailand in 2023.

Meanwhile, Ziad Muhammad was noted as a USK's favorite reading ambassador in 2022, and Aura Lativa had ever joined Japan's EBA Fieldwork Program in Kumamoto.

As revealed on its official website, the USK is recorded as the oldest public university in Aceh Province. It was founded on September 2, 1961, while its foundation was supported by Indonesian Presidential Decree No. 161/1962, dated April 24, 1962.

Syiah Kuala University, which currently manages 12 faculties and has more than 30,000 students, was among the top three universities in Indonesia after the University of Indonesia (UI) and Gadjah Mada University (UGM), according to Scimago Institutions Rankings (2023).
