TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Director General of Immigration at the Law and Human Rights Ministry, Silmy Karim, confirmed that his side has not yet issued a travel ban for Agriculture Minister, Syahrul Yasin Limpo, as there has been no request to do so.
“There is no request for a travel ban for the Agriculture Minister,” Silmy said at the ministry’s office in Jakarta, on Wednesday, October 4, 2023.
Syahrul was suspected of being involved in the alleged graft case. Last week, the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) raided his house in the Widya Chandra area of South Jakarta.
The NasDem (National Democrat) Party politician has been on an official trip to Europe since September 24, 2023. He has yet to return to Indonesia, although he was scheduled to arrive in Jakarta on October 1.
Silmy confirmed that the minister has not yet entered Indonesian territory. He also claimed that Immigration had not coordinated plans for the latter’s return since the alleged gratification case is being handled by the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK).
Deputy Agriculture Minister Harvick Hasnul Qolbi said the ministry was still looking for the minister’s whereabouts. “We haven't received any news yet,” he said at the Merdeka Palace, Jakarta, on Tuesday, October 3, 2023.
Meanwhile, the NasDem Party's treasurer, Ahmad Sahroni, dismissed rumors about the disappearance of one of their party members during a working visit to Europe. He emphasized that Syahrul would eventually return to Indonesia.
According to him, the minister has not yet returned to Indonesia as he had prostate problems. “So he will treat it first,” he said. However, Sahroni claimed he did not know where he was being treated.
Sahroni also said Syahrul Yasin Limpo would arrive in Jakarta on October 5, 2023.
