Erick Thohir Disappointed over Alleged Misappropriation of SOE Pension Funds

aTEMPO.CO, Jakarta - State-Owned Enterprises Minister Erick Thohir is disappointed because there are allegations of misuse of pension funds managed by BUMN (SOEs). Moreover, of the 48 existing pension fund managers, 70 percent are not financially sound.

"I am disappointed and sad because workers who have worked for decades [would not be getting] the optimum amount [of their pension funds] because they were robbed by barbaric individuals," Erick said in a press conference at the Attorney General's Office, Tuesday, October 3.

Erick said the case has been handed over to the Attorney General's Office, and he is optimistic that the Attorney General's Office can investigate and solve it.

"The Attorney General and all prosecutors will clean up the individuals who have really harmed pensioners, whose retirement days have been robbed," he said.

Previously, Erick had asked the Financial and Development Supervisory Agency (BPKP) to audit BUMN's dapen. In the first audit stage, BPKP audited four pension fund managers of four SOEs: PT Inhutani, PT Angkasa Pura I, PT Perkebunan Nusantara PTPN, and ID Food. The audit result showed a state loss of Rp300 billion due to suspected fund misappropriation in the investment stage.

"And not every company has been exposed by the BPKP and the AGO. This means that this figure could be bigger," said Erick.

Attorney General ST Burhanuddin confirmed this. He said that the loss of Rp300 billion was only an initial estimate from a series of calculations that currently have only reached progress of 10 percent.

"We can't say the exact amount [at this time]. But what is certain is that [the loss] is more than Rp300 billion," Burhanuddin said.
