TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Wayang Jogja Night Carnival or WJNC 2023 which will be held this Saturday, October 7, 2023, has sold over 8,000 tickets yesterday. The carnival will mark the climax of Yogyakarta's 267th anniversary commemoration.
"The enthusiasm started even days before the event with 8,000 tribune tickets already sold," said the head of Yogyakarta Tourism Office Wahyu Hendratmoko said on Tuesday. The theme of this carnival is "Pandawa Mahabhiseka", a traditional story in Mahabharata.
Paid tickets are a novelty for this previously free-of-charge festivity. The paid tribune tickets are targeted at the curious eyes of tourists who desire to watch the showcase from a close distance.
Additionally, Wahyu mentioned that free tickets are offered for those who want to participate in WJCN. The requirement for obtaining free tickets is following the social media account of the Yogyakarta Tourism Office and showing the proof to the officers at the south gate of Jl. Margo Utomo at the south of Tugu Yogyakarta.
Visitors are also able to watch the carnival from Jl. Jendral Sudirman and Jl. Pangeran Diponegoro.
Prior to witnessing WJCN, visitors are invited to visit a photo and memorabilia exhibition in the PDIN Building from October 2 to 7, 2023. The exhibition is filled with WJCN-related photos and memorabilia throughout the years.
