TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Transportation Minister Budi Karya Sumadi revealed the plan to extend the development of a high-speed train to Surabaya in East Java.
"Imagine, it only took 25 minutes to reach Padalarang, so it [will take] 3.5 hours only to reach Surabaya," he said when met after the inauguration of the Jakarta-Bandung high-speed train or Whoosh at Halim Station today. "It's become our obsession."
Budi Karya explained that his side will draft the proposal to develop the high-speed train to Surabaya. Concerning the final decision falling at the hand of the next administration after President Jokowi, he seems unaffected.
The important thing is, according to the minister, the ministry has drafted the initial plan. "I'm just illustrating that the high-speed train will become more common and more efficient with a distance farther than 500 kilometers," Budi Karya stated.
President Joko "Jokowi" Widodo inaugurated the high-speed train from Jakarta to Bandung, officially named Whoosh, today. The 350-kilometer velocity train brought the president and his entourage to Padalarang Station.
