TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Financial Services Authority (OJK) planned to launch a carbon exchange on September 26, 2023, as one of Indonesia's commitments to reduce greenhouse gas emissions and achieve net zero emissions by 2060.
The carbon exchange was also expected to promote energy transition and mitigate climate change.
On September 18, the OJK appointed the Indonesia Stock Exchange (IDX) as the organizer of the carbon exchange through the issuance of the Financial Services Authority Regulation (POJK) No. 14 of 2023 concerning carbon trading.
IDX thus released IDX Directors' Decree No. Kep-00297/BEI/09-2023 concerning Regulations for Users of Carbon Exchange Services, which regulates service users, carbon units, and those related to trading and trading supervision.
In the regulation, users of carbon exchange services consist of emissions trading business actors, non-emission trading business actors, project owners, and other parties that have received approval from the OJK.
Details on the requirements for using carbon exchange services, procedures, registration, and fees can be found on the IDX's official website https://www.idx.co.id/id.
