Batam Govt Lures Relocated Rempang Residents with 4 Promises

20 September 2023 17:23 WIB

TEMPO.CO, JakartaThe Indonesian government, particularly the government of Batam, offers promises to the residents of Rempang Island who are willing to relocate to Galang Island. The government wants to turn Rempang Island into Rempang Eco City, an industrial and commercial region, for their future prosperity.

Here are four government's promises to the relocated residents:

1. House worth Rp120 million and 500 square meters of land

The government pledges a house worth Rp120 million and 500 square meters of land to each relocated family. This was announced by the Mayor of Batam Development Authority (BP Batam), Muhammad Rudi, to Tempo on Friday, September 15.

A land area of 450 hectares has been prepared for the construction of 2,700 houses, complete with sports facilities such as a football field, educational facilities, government offices, and a pier. There will also be a main road to access the relocation area.

2. Cash assistance and house rental fees

Apart from houses and land, the government also offers financial assistance to relocated residents. Rudi said each individual will receive Rp1.2 million and a house rental fee of Rp1.2 million. The people will be paid until the promised house is completed.

3. Land Management Rights (HPL)

Minister of Agrarian Affairs and Spatial Planning/Head of the National Land Agency, Hadi Tjahjanto, confirmed that a land area of 500 hectares in Galang Island has been prepared for relocated residents. They will also be granted land management rights which could potentially improve their welfare.

4. Land Certificate

Hadi further revealed that the government had coordinated with Batam Mayor Muhammad Rudi for the process of issuing land certificates to the relocated people of Rempang Island. The inventory and identification process has been conducted, and 16 subject points have been identified. The government planned to hand over the certificates immediately while continuing with the construction of the relocation area.
