TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The residents of Keranggan District, Setu Sub-districts, South Tangerang have been experiencing a water crisis for a month. Over 700 households in ten neighborhoods are reportedly in need of clean water.
Currently, the residents are depending on water pumps located in a nearby housing complex. "[The residents] have experienced drought for a month since the dry season [started], the drought was probably exacerbated by the land contour of Keranggan District which has a lot of excavations," said Madih, Keranggan's district head on Thursday, September 14, 2023.
"For the past month, the residents obtained clean water through the water pumps in the Lagon housing complex since the [water pumps] weren't utilized, we used pipes to distribute the water. Even if it's not always enough, it helps," Madih added.
The city government of South Tangerang has sent four tank cars from the South Tangerang Regional Disaster Management Agency to supply clean water to the area. Unfortunately, the water was slightly murky since the tank was previously used for other matters.
Madih and his office will submit for cleaner tank cars to be sent from the city's Housing and Urban Planning Office. He also hoped that the government could routinely supply clean water to the district since the residents need clean water for their everyday activities.
"Hopefully every couple days we could receive water supplies," he said.
