FIFA Announces Drawing for U-17 World Cup

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - FIFA officially announced that the drawing for the U-17 World Cup 2023 will take place on Friday, September 15, 2023, at 09:00 p.m. in Zurich, Switzerland, as relayed by the press release received by Tempo today. The drawing will also be live-streamed on FIFA TV and Vidio.

Twenty-four teams will compete in the tournament. They are Argentina, Brazil, Burkina Faso, Canada, Ecuador, UK, France, Germany, Indonesia, Iran, Japan, South Korea, Mali, Mexico, Morocco, New Caledonia, New Zealand, Panama, Poland, Senegal, Spain, US, Uzbekistan, and Venezuela.

The 24 qualified teams will be allocated to four pots of six teams each, based on a ranking system created according to past sporting performance in the last five U-17 World Cups.

The pots are as follows:

Pot 1: Indonesia, Brazil, Mexico, France, Spain, Japan

Pot 2: Germany, Mali, England, Korea Republic, Argentina, Ecuador

Pot 3: New Zealand, IR Iran, Senegal, USA, Uzbekistan, Morocco

Pot 4: Canada, New Caledonia, Panama, Venezuela, Poland, Burkina Faso

The drawing will be conducted by FIFA Director Jaime Yarza, the winner of the 1995 U-17 World Cup Stephen Appiah, and the finalist of the 1995 U-17 World Cup Julio Cesar. 

The U-17 World Cup 2023 is scheduled to be held at four stadiums, namely Jakarta International Stadium (JIS), Si Jalak Harupat Stadium in Bandung, Manahan Stadium in Solo, and Gelora Bung Tomo Stadium in Surabaya starting November 10 to December 2, 2023.
